Situation
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal issued a quarterly publication entitled Trend Chart which was meant to be an important source of economic information. The primary challenge was to bring this publication to the Web with a more dynamic, interactive approach.
The primary objective will be to make the report on the main
economic trends for the Metropolitan Montreal area accessible by
means of regular updates of information. Ad hoc analyses will be
made to establish a context for the information so that users can
assess the impact on Montreal’s economic development.
Evolution
We proposed an approach that was close to the printed version of
Trend Chart, with an added touch of interactivity and communication
with members. Scripting was conceived according to existing printed
materials and the new image of the Board of Trade. As the online
version of Trend Chart brings together a good deal of information
in one place, S2i proposed an information architecture that could
grow with increased content.
The economic data section is enhanced with Flash files generated by
XCelcius software, which converts data sheets into interactive,
visually pleasing files.
There is also a survey section, found on the home page, which
provides staff with information on members and users of the
Website. The questions of the survey can easily be updated through
the content-management console, and results obtained can be
compiled quickly and dynamically.
Finally, Board of Trade staff can use the content-management
environment to update content with complete autonomy, giving them a
great deal of flexibility.
